Kookin Cousins started as a local catering company founded by cousins Adell Kirkwood III and Mark Solomon. Encouraged by family after a successful Christmas Eve event, they began delivering meals to barber and beauty shops, recognizing a need for convenient, quality food options. Expanding to meet demand, we soon catered corporate events for major clients like Coca-Cola and Pepsi. Despite COVID setbacks and Mark's departure due to family responsibilities , Adell persisted, diversifying into product bottling to sustain the business financially.
Once restrictions lifted, Adell seized the opportunity to formalize the business. Recognizing a lack of black-owned commercial kitchens, he launched Kookin' Cousins Kitchens LLC in the heart of Kansas City. Despite construction delays and financial hurdles, they opened their doors, offering kitchen rental space to food businesses and creatives, fostering culinary innovation and passion.
We felt it was important to give back to our community! Along with Co Founder Chef Jayaun Smith, we created A Kid & A Kitchen! A youth culinary art nonprofit created to enrich the youth with essential cooking skills with the emphasis on literacy and health!
